It’s a very simple statement, but one I find myself using more and more with my clients – “the body follows the mind.” If you do not have the right mindset, then no matter what you want to accomplish it will be much harder or even impossible to do. If we do not believe in what we are doing, we’re less likely to succeed. If we fear what we’re doing, we will never get over the hurdles in front of us. If we don’t first work on changing the way we think about things we can never fully reach the pinnacle of success that we want no matter what the area of concern is.
In just speaking with a client casually today, I instinctively said “the body follows the mind” in response to one of her statements. It gave her a moment’s pause and then she said, “You’re right.” It’s that “Aha” moment when you stop to think about it. If you want something, you have to believe in it and that you are worthy of it. Many people have said this before me, I know, but I want to emphasize one point. If you are unwilling to let go of a belief, let go of a habit, let go of an emotion in order to have what you want, then you will never fully achieve your goal.
It started with me long ago, when I wanted to lose weight. I started with the attitude, I’ve tried everything and it doesn’t work. But when I turned it around in my head and asked “Why wouldn’t it work for me?” That’s when I started to believe that maybe I could achieve something that had eluded me for years. I thought everyone else had a faster metabolism or they weren’t sick with autoimmune diseases so it was easier for them to lose weight. But then I thought, why couldn’t I lose weight if I went about it armed with the right information. If I believed that my efforts were based on sound thinking and not trying to do the outrageous, sensible planning would work. I needed to stop listening to all of the outside voices and start listening to my inner voice. I know myself better than anyone else, just as you know yourself the best. It’s when we doubt ourselves that we have issues. We stumble over the little obstacles because we second guess ourselves or listen to the naysayers tell us we can’t do it.
It’s time to drown out the other voices except the one that tells us we are perfect as we are. That we can accomplish what we set our minds to. That we are exceptional in every way because we are unique. Then our body will follow the mind that is calm and focused. The change in our thinking will transform our lives more than any “miracle” drug. Don’t wait until “the right time” to do what you want to do. Let me clue you in – THERE IS NO PERFECT TIME. Start now. Don’t worry about the diet or the clothes or anything external. Start working on your mindset. Once you believe, you will achieve.
We live in the present. Now is the right time!
