I used to have horrible cravings that didn’t stop until I satisfied them with something sweet and high in sugar. Once I figured out that it was simple to put these cravings at bay, I never looked back. More than just relieving those cravings, getting those sugary substances out of my life helped me heal so much faster. But it wasn’t easy to do. I looked for alternatives to sugar but artificial sweeteners are just as bad, and some worse, than sugar. Then I discovered adding essential oils to my water helped control those cravings without doing much else. Of course, I changed my overall diet and kept my forward momentum in detoxing from sugar and all the processed foods until I was able to develop the optimal diet for myself.
What I learned was the properties of some essential oils, especially citrus oils, helped calm those cravings without driving me to scrounge for a snack. (Which I did more times than I care to remember!) This is one of the easiest ways to change those bad eating habits by adding in something that is so good for you and tastes great. Here are some of the ways that these oils help you control your cravings and your metabolism as well.
- Suppress appetite
- Reduce those lumpy, bumps on your butt and thighs
- Start slimming down by kick starting weight loss
- Control overeating or cravings
So what oils work the best to use for cravings and the other issues? I like adding essential oils to my water that I drink throughout the day. I have a large glass jug of water that I add a few drops of oil. I cover the opening so it keeps out any odors or flavors in the refrigerator. If I want to boost my mood while helping my digestion, I add a few drops of grapefruit oil. If I add lemon essential oil to my water, I feel energized and awakened. Peppermint oil is very helpful when I have an upset tummy.
They’re not the only essential oils that will help you with cravings and digestion. Other essential oils and their helpful properties include:
- Orange – can help you feel calm and refreshed
- Ginger – great when you have digestive issues (I love to add it to my favorite Asian-inspired recipes.)
- Lime – I just like the flavor of lime cause it’s so refreshing
- Spearmint – this essential oil just reminds me of my childhood – fresh and relaxing. It’s hard to explain but the taste brings back memories of my youth.
I’m sure there are many other essential oils that people use regularly for curbing cravings, calming upset stomach and general digestive health. Every day I make sure that our pitcher is filled with fresh, filtered water with 2-3 drops of one of my favorite essential oils. It’s always available so there’s no need to drink anything else. Nothing refreshes or quenches thirst like water. Water flavored with these delicious essential oils makes is so much tastier that I drink all the necessary amount of water I need every day. So not only can you curb your cravings but you will want to drink more water because it tastes so yummy!
